DOL Opinion Letter on FLSA Seems Like Christmas Already

Does the Department of Labor Consider Gigs Jobs?

DOL Opinion Letter on FLSA Seems Like Christmas Already

For businesses in the “gig”, “on-demand” or the boldly insidious name of “sharing” economies, the U.S. Dept. of Labor (DOL) delivered an early Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)  Christmas gift wrapped in the form of an opinion letter.

FLSA2019-6 which can be downloaded here: https://www.dol.gov/whd/opinion/FLSA/2019/2019_04_29_06_FLSA.pdf

The Opinion Letter lays out such a nice road map for FLSA conformance that there’s really nothing I care to add without specific questions or situations presented that aren’t covered in the letter. It covers the subject well, so the best advice is to read it and heed it carefully.  After you’ve read the letter, though, and considered it in the context of your business or your endeavors and still find you have questions, let me hear from you.  In the meantime, happy reading!
